A Wedding in the Occidental Redwoods

I loved being a part of Freesia & Randall’s wedding!  They chose to marry in a redwood grove (the perfect choice for a warm July day), and then lead their guests in a Second Line Parade through downtown Occidental to their reception site – the historic Occidental Union Hotel. Weddings (at least the good ones) usually have more than their fair share of laughter, hugs and tears, but this one was so chock full of it all that even someone who photographs upwards of twenty weddings a year got choked up more than once!

If the images here look a little different than some of my other work you’ve seen it’s because Freesia & Randall wanted a subtly different feel to the final colors, so we decided to collaborate on getting a more”moody” look. While working on the images I used VSCO filters that accentuate roses, blues and golds and downplays apple greens. Then I added some deep contrast and a faint matted look to arrive at the “dreamy” images you see below.  It’s just one part of the process that can make each weddings final images unique.
